Rival AKB48 “Nogizaka46″

Pada tanggal 28 Juni, telah dikonfirmasi kebenarannya kalau produser AKB48, Akimoto Yasushi akan membentuk grup baru bernama Nogizaka46. Grup baru ini akan berbeda dari grup saudara AKB48 yaitu SKE48, NMB48, dan SDN48, karena Nogizaka46 akan berkegiatan sebagai "AKB48's Official Rivals" dalam aktivitas idol mereka. Anggotanya akan dipilih melalui audisi terbuka mulai tanggal 20 Juli.

Anggota dari Nogizaka46 akan dipilih dari diproduseri oleh Akimoto dan Sony Music. Menururt Akimoto, salah satu bagian nama grup baru itu "Nogizaka"  berasal dari lokasi audisi panggung terakhir "SME Nogizaka Building", sedangkan "46" berasal dari ide "Meskipun anggotanya lebih sedikit daripada AKB, mereka tidak akan kalah."

Untuk audisi terbuka ini, panggung pertama audisi ini akan diadakan tanggal 20 Juli (Seleksi berdasarkan surat lamaran), panggung ke-2 audisi akan diadakan tanggal 6 dan 7 Agustus di 7 tempat (Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, dan Okinawa) (selesksi melalui wawancara); apanggung terakhir audisi akan diadakan tanggal 20 dan 21 Agustus (seleksi melalui talent/keahlian). Generasi pertama dari Nogizaka46 akan berisi 20 anggota, mulai bulan Oktober , siapapun yang sukses melalui semua panggung audisi itu dijadwalkan akan muncul di program variety TV dan akan mengeluarkan CD debut dibawah label  Sony Music Records.
